Answers Before You Schedule Auto Glass Service

A cracked windshield, shattered side window, or broken rear glass usually creates several questions at once. Can the damage be repaired? Which window do you need? Can the work be completed at your home? Does the vehicle have a camera that needs calibration?

This page answers the questions we commonly hear from Carrollton-area drivers. Because glass, vehicles, damage, insurance policies, and service locations vary, some answers depend on the exact situation. Call or send the vehicle information and photos when you need a more specific answer.

Mobile Service and Coverage Questions

Is 1st Class Auto Glass a mobile-only service?

Yes. Every appointment is mobile. We come to a suitable home, workplace, apartment community, business, fleet lot, or another accessible location instead of operating a customer-facing storefront.

Where can mobile service be completed?

Service can often be completed in a driveway, office parking area, apartment lot, fleet yard, warehouse, or other location where the vehicle is accessible and there is enough safe working room.

What areas do you serve?

Carrollton is our primary service area. We also commonly serve Addison, Coppell, Farmers Branch, Hebron, Lewisville, Plano, The Colony, and certain Dallas and North Dallas addresses. Visit our mobile service-area page for more information.

Do you have a shop in each city listed on the website?

No. The listed cities are mobile service areas, not separate shops, offices, branches, addresses, or Google Business Profile locations.

Can you work in a parking garage?

Possibly, but the garage must have enough height, lighting, workspace, and safe access. Low ceilings, narrow spaces, heavy traffic, or property restrictions can make another location necessary.

What happens if it rains?

Some glass services require dry and stable working conditions. A garage or covered area may help when it provides enough room and clearance. Otherwise, the location or appointment time may need to be adjusted.

Do I have to be present during the appointment?

We need access to the vehicle and may need the keys, controls, or additional information. The appointment arrangements depend on the location and type of service, so discuss access when scheduling.

Quotes and Scheduling

How do I request a quote?

Call (214) 585-9353 or use our online auto glass quote form. Include the vehicle details, damaged window, service address, and photos when possible.

What information do you need?

Send the vehicle year, make, model, body style, VIN or license plate, damaged-glass location, and service address. Tell us about cameras, sensors, tint, sliders, defrosters, or other features you know about.

Why do you need the VIN or license plate?

The same model may use different glass depending on the model year, trim level, body style, cameras, sensors, tint, mirror attachments, moldings, or other equipment. The VIN or plate helps reduce guesswork.

Can I just send a photo?

Photos are very helpful, especially when you are unsure which window is damaged. We may still need the VIN, license plate, or other vehicle information to confirm the correct glass.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Appointment timing depends on the correct part, supplier availability, service address, type of work, weather, and current schedule. We can give you a better expectation after reviewing the vehicle information.

Is mobile service included in the quote?

Mobile service is how we perform our work. The quote should reflect the scheduled service, vehicle, glass, and location. Ask before scheduling if you have questions about what is included.

Windshield Chip Repair Questions

Technician performing a windshield chip repair
Mobile windshield chip repair for qualifying damage.

When can a windshield chip be repaired?

Repairability depends on the size, depth, age, location, impact type, and condition of the surrounding glass. Damage near an edge, in a critical viewing area, or involving multiple layers may not be a good repair candidate.

Does the chip have to be smaller than a quarter?

Size can help with an initial assessment, but it is not the only factor. A smaller impact can still be unsuitable because of its depth, position, contamination, or connection to another crack.

Can you tell from a photo whether it can be repaired?

A clear photo can help us give you an initial opinion, but the technician may need to inspect the damage in person before confirming repairability.

Will the chip disappear completely?

No responsible technician should promise that repaired damage will become invisible. Its appearance may improve, but a blemish or outline can remain. The main goal is to stabilize qualifying damage and reduce the likelihood of further spreading.

Can the chip spread during or after repair?

There is always some risk when working with already damaged glass. Repair improves the chances of stabilizing suitable damage, but it cannot make the windshield new or guarantee that the area will never spread.

Can I drive immediately after a chip repair?

Chip repair does not normally use the same structural urethane as windshield replacement. The technician will explain any care instructions that apply to the completed repair.

What should I do before the appointment?

Try to keep the impact clean and dry. Avoid pressing on it, applying household glue, or attempting a do-it-yourself repair before the technician evaluates the damage.

Windshield Replacement Questions

How do I know when replacement is needed?

Replacement may be recommended for long or spreading cracks, edge damage, multiple impacts, severe pitting, inner-layer damage, or damage that cannot be repaired appropriately.

Can I send a photo for an opinion?

Yes. A photo can help us give you an initial idea of whether replacement is likely, although an in-person inspection may still be needed.

What type of replacement glass do you use?

The available windshield depends on the vehicle and part options. We identify glass based on the vehicle configuration, required features, fit, attachments, and availability rather than promising one universal glass category for every job.

How long does windshield replacement take?

Timing depends on the vehicle, glass, moldings, trim, cameras, sensors, installation conditions, and calibration requirements. We can provide a more useful expectation after identifying the exact windshield.

When can I drive after installation?

The adhesive requires a safe-drive-away period. The correct wait time varies with the adhesive, temperature, humidity, vehicle, and installation conditions. The technician will tell you when the vehicle can be driven.

Why is there tape around the windshield?

Retention tape may be used to help keep exterior trim or moldings in position while the installation settles. Leave it in place until the technician’s recommended removal time.

Can I wash the vehicle right away?

Avoid high-pressure water around the new windshield until the technician says it is appropriate. Follow the aftercare instructions provided at the appointment.

Side, Door, Quarter, and Back Glass Questions

Which vehicle windows do you replace?

Service may be available for front and rear door glass, side windows, quarter glass, vent glass, fixed side glass, back glass, hatch glass, liftgate glass, and certain truck rear-window or slider assemblies.

What if I do not know the name of the window?

Tell us where it is located and send a photo. We can help determine whether it is door glass, quarter glass, vent glass, back glass, or another panel.

Do you clean the shattered glass?

We remove and vacuum accessible glass associated with the damaged window. Very small fragments can sometimes remain deep in carpet, seat tracks, door cavities, trim panels, or enclosed areas.

Will the new window have the same tint?

Some vehicles use factory privacy glass, while others have aftermarket tint film. We identify the available replacement glass, but separate aftermarket film may need to be installed afterward.

What if the power window stopped moving?

The problem may involve the regulator, motor, guide, switch, wiring, or mounting hardware rather than the glass. Tell us what happened before the window stopped working or broke.

Do you repair window regulators and motors?

Describe the problem when requesting the quote. A mechanical issue may need to be evaluated or corrected before new glass can be installed and operated properly.

What if the door or frame is damaged?

Glass replacement does not repair unrelated body, hinge, latch, wiring, track, or collision damage. Send photos of the entire door and surrounding area if the damage came from an accident or break-in.

Where can I learn more about rear-window service?

Visit our back glass and rear window replacement page for information about defrosters, privacy glass, truck sliders, and shattered-glass cleanup.

ADAS Calibration Questions

ADAS calibration equipment positioned in front of a vehicle
Vehicle-specific ADAS calibration equipment and target setup.

What does ADAS mean?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These may include lane departure warnings, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision alerts, automatic emergency braking, and other camera-based features.

Does every windshield replacement require calibration?

No. The requirement depends on the vehicle and its equipment. Many vehicles with forward-facing windshield cameras require calibration, but the procedure must be checked for the specific vehicle.

Do you provide mobile ADAS calibration?

Yes. We provide mobile static and dynamic calibration for supported vehicles when the required setup and working conditions can be met.

What is static calibration?

Static calibration is completed while the vehicle remains parked. Targets and measuring equipment are positioned according to the required vehicle-specific procedure.

What is dynamic calibration?

Dynamic calibration uses a scan-tool routine and a road drive under specified conditions. The process may depend on lane markings, traffic, speed, daylight, road quality, and weather.

Can a vehicle require both methods?

Yes. Some vehicles require static calibration, dynamic calibration, or a combination of both.

Why might a calibration fail to complete?

Possible causes include an incorrect windshield or bracket, camera or wiring damage, vehicle faults, alignment issues, unsuitable workspace, poor lane markings, traffic, weather, or another unmet manufacturer requirement.

Can calibration repair a damaged camera?

No. Calibration aims a functioning system. It does not repair a damaged camera, bracket, wiring problem, incorrect windshield, or unrelated vehicle fault.

Commercial Truck and Fleet Questions

Do you replace windshields on commercial trucks?

Yes. Service may be available for semi-trucks, tractor units, dump trucks, box trucks, tow trucks, utility trucks, commercial vans, delivery vehicles, work trucks, and fleet units.

Can you work at a fleet yard or job site?

Yes, when the property allows vehicle service and there is enough level, stable, accessible, and safe space around the truck.

Do you replace split or two-piece truck windshields?

Service may be available for one-piece and two-piece commercial windshields. Send a full front photo, the VIN, and tell us which side is damaged.

Can you schedule several fleet vehicles?

Yes. Provide the unit number, VIN, vehicle details, damaged glass, photos, and operating availability for each vehicle.

What information is needed for a truck quote?

Provide the year, make, model, VIN, cab style, windshield configuration, damaged side, service address, site-access information, and clear photos.

Where can I learn more?

Visit our commercial truck and fleet windshield page.

Insurance and Payment Questions

Will insurance cover windshield or auto glass replacement?

Some comprehensive policies cover glass damaged by storms, theft, vandalism, roadway debris, falling objects, or other covered events. Coverage and deductibles vary by policy.

Should I file an insurance claim?

Compare the replacement quote with your deductible and ask your insurance company how the loss would be handled. The insurer makes the final coverage decision.

Can I pay for the service myself?

Yes. Many customers choose direct payment, especially when the quoted cost is near or below their insurance deductible.

Can you guarantee what my insurer will pay?

No. Insurance coverage is controlled by the policy and insurance company. Confirm benefits, deductibles, and claim requirements directly with the insurer.

Will I receive a quote before the work begins?

We review the vehicle and service information before scheduling. Tell us about any unusual vehicle features, damage, access issues, or mechanical problems that could affect the work.

Aftercare, Quality, and Warranty Questions

How should I care for a newly installed windshield?

Follow the safe-drive-away time and care instructions provided by the technician. You may need to leave tape in place, avoid high-pressure washing, and avoid unnecessary door slamming for a period of time.

What if I notice wind noise or water after installation?

Call us and describe what you noticed, when it began, and under what conditions it happens. We can then help determine the appropriate next step.

Do you offer a workmanship warranty?

Ask us about the workmanship-warranty terms that apply to your specific installation. Coverage depends on the written terms and the nature of the concern.

Does a workmanship warranty cover new rock impacts or accidents?

Workmanship coverage is different from new damage caused by rocks, road debris, collisions, vandalism, body damage, vehicle faults, or another outside event.

What if a repaired chip later spreads?

Contact us and explain what happened. Windshield repair stabilizes qualifying damage but cannot make damaged glass new or guarantee that it will never spread.

What if I have a question after the technician leaves?

Call (214) 585-9353. Tell us which service was completed and what you noticed so we can review the concern.
